DaBaby Levitating remix losing US radio audiences after the rapper’s comments on HIV/AIDS

Following remarks by the rapper DaBaby regarding HIV/AIDS at a Miami, Florida festival, his remix of Dua Lipa’s song Levitating has lost a significant amount of radio audience in the United States of America. Yesterday, Billboard reported that, out of all the radio plays for Levitating, DaBaby’s remix now only makes up 49.5% of the radio plays for the song, a 20.7% decrease from last week.

At a performance at the Rolling Loud festival in Miami, DaBaby told an audience, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cell phone light in the air”, and went on to say, “Fellas, if you ain’t suck a nigga dick in the parking lot, put your cell phone lights in the air.” Lipa responded on her Instagram story by writing that she was “surprised and horrified” by DaBaby’s words, adding that “we need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS”.

Audacy, which is the second-largest radio group in the USA, told Billboard that they had removed the remix of Levitating from their stations “in light of DaBaby’s homophobic statements”. Jeremy Rice, who is the programming and branding director of Long Island-based WBLI in New York, has said that his station shifted to the version of Levitating that solely features Lipa, saying that WBLI management “just think it’s the right thing to do” given what he called DaBaby’s “plain wrong and hurtful” comments.

Fellow rapper T.I. defended DaBaby, arguing that “If you have a Lil Nas X video, and him living his truth, you gone damn sure have people like DaBaby who are going to speak they truth.” Lil Nas X is a gay rapper, who released the music video for his single Industry Baby on July 23, which “depicted him and a crowd of male dancers seemingly performing nude”, with their genitals blurred, according to Snopes.

Although DaBaby initially stood by his comments, on August 2 he apologised “to the LGBTQ+ community” for what he called “my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS”. While saying that he appreciated “the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education and resources”, the rapper also wrote that “social media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate and learn from your mistakes”.

Translation Jobs: How A Translator Works

Submitted by: Maric Vobler

When the offer made by the translator meets the work provider s needs and specifications, both can reach agreement on the nature and terms and conditions of the service to be provided. The transaction stems from the conjunction of a request for translation (made by the work provider via a call for tenders or other channels) and an offer of services by a translator, including a time schedule and an estimate. A compromise usually has to be reached between the translator s conditions of sale and his client s conditions of purchase.

Once agreement has been reached, some sort of contract is drawn up and signed. This generally includes a confidentiality agreement. The work provider sends the translator the material to be translated (which can be a text, a video for subtitling, a DVD for dubbing, documents, the contents of a Web site, code, messages, tapes, or any other kind of source material), together with a translation kit that includes anything that the translator might need.

Unless the material is certified 100% reliable, any source document, whether it be text, code, digital recordings or any other type of material, needs first of all to be checked.

In some cases, a number of specific and sometimes complex operations (such as extracting code, disassembling a software application, reconstructing all the on-line help material, keying in data, scanning a document, transferring videos, writing down the script, installing a file in a computer-assisted translation system, etc.) have to be carried out before the translation can start.

In the case of large-scale projects involving many different operators, a project manager will establish a work plan defining who does what and when, for when, and using what resources.

The process can be analysed in more detail as follows:

– the translator takes delivery of the material to be translated (any kind of material), checks it and makes it fit and ready for translation;

– the translator analyses the material to be translated;

– the translator looks for and processes any information required to help her/him get a full understanding of the material and clear up any ambiguous points (this may entail searching for the relevant documentation, studying the technical process or the product involved, being trained in how to use the product or materials involved, etc.);

– the translator assembles all the raw materials required to carry out the job (i.e. relevant terminology, phraseology, sentence structures or phrase templates, as well as previously translated material, etc.). In many cases, the raw materials come as one or more translation memories and dictionaries that may have to be upgraded prior to reuse;

– the translator sets up the version for translation/retranslation in the appropriate environment, complete with available resources;

– the translator translates the material – which, in some cases, may mean quite a lot of adapting, reorganising, and restructuring;

– the translator (or reviser) checks and revises the draft translation;

– corrections or amendments are made;

– the final version is validated;

– the translated material is formatted according to specifications, integrated or embedded into whatever product or medium is applicable (video, sound track, printed page, etc.) before being transferred to the relevant medium (disk, CD, DVD, Web site, etc.) This maybe part of the translator s job though it is usually taken care of by specialist operators;

– the final version is delivered to the translator s client.

Thai government reportedly planning Internet censorship

Thursday, January 26, 2006

According to a report in the Bangkok Post, the Thai government’s Public Relations Department is considering blocking the website of Manager Online as a possible instigator of “social chaos”.

The report claims that a document was submitted to the Communications Authority of Thailand urging a block be issued against the site as the current calls for participation in anti-government rallies by outspoken government critic Sondhi Limthongkul may be a threat to social order.

Other reports claim that CAT Telecom cut off a live satellite broadcast by Sondi on the ASTV satellite network on Tuesday evening during a discussion related to a planned anti-government rally on February 4.

Chess champion is “Fritzed” by computer

Tuesday, December 5, 2006

Russian chess grandmaster, Vladimir Kramnik lost the final match of his man versus machine match against the Deep Fritz chess program. The six game match in Bonn, Germany had a final result of 4-2 for the German-developed chess program which runs on readily available computer hardware.

The first match which concluded on November 25 was a draw, Kramnik lost the second game to the computer with some indications that he overlooked a mate in one win. Third through fifth matches were all draws.

Kramnik, whilst the current world chess champion, is actually ranked third in the world. A contributory factor in this is his health problems. The world champion suffers from a rare form of arthritis which makes sitting playing in tournaments extremely painful for him.

Keep The Attentions In Mind Watch Buyers

Submitted by: Venson Huang

With the rapid growth of the national economy, praiseworthy improvement has taken place in people s life level, as a result, people s purchasing power of luxuries has improved greatly, especially of watches. And people pay more and more attention to the brand and the appearance. However, facing various sorts of watches, large numbers of consumers are dazzled. Therefore, it s not that easy to decide to purchase one that fits you best.

Usually, price, which took up a large proportion in people s watch purchase conception in the past a few decades, has been gradually ignored. On the contrary, people start to think more of the brand, style, and functions. In their opinion, everyday, they will wear theirs, which act as a constant companion in their daily life. Therefore, people must be more serious when choosing them, in order to let them provide better service.

Choose Waterproof Ones as Much as Possible

The movement will go wrong if one is non-waterproof or its case is poorly sealed. On the contrary, the well waterproof ones will have guaranteed timekeeping performance and save their owners time on the unnecessary maintenance. All the waterproof watches are marked WATER RESISTENT or 3ATM , which can be easily find on their backs.

Not All the People Are Suitable to Wear Self-Winding Ones

The old, valetudinarians and sedentary workers are better not to wear self-winding watches, which must depend on the wearers swinging their arms to wind. If keeping still for a long time, these may often show the wrong time or even go wrong, mostly because of its movement s lacking of running-in.

Considering the Battery When Choosing Quartz Watches

Whatever knid of quartz watches, their batteries frequency of changing should be at least one year. Usually, ladies watches are more frequent for their movements are smaller in shape. When facing ultra-thin ones, you should know whether it is convenient to change battery, what s more, the smaller and thinner the battery is,the higher its price will be.

Sapphire Glass is the First Choice

As for today s medium-to high grade watches, most of them have sapphire glass, whose biggest advantage is its high hardness(second only to diamant), standing wear and tear. And sapphire glass ones are always marked sapphire on the dial or on the back.

Never Purchase 3 Without the Produts

The agave color of the bag is fantastic! The antiqued nappa lambskin polished with gold-tone hardware makes it fashionable and high-end. It features zip top closure with silver-tone zipper trim and jacquard lining with side zip pocket. With impeccable craftsmanship and fine materials, it guarantees top quality and best taste.

A regular watch is with a small box, a manual and a warranty card. Some even with tags and inspection certificate. Moreover, a well-made one will have lots of marks, such as the model,manufacturing location and water-proof, etc, while the fake one isn t of comprehensive marks or the marks are not clear. Therefore, consumers should be alert and never purchase these just because of their attractive price. Similarly, remember not to take the smuggled goods into consideration, for you may be refused to have yours freely fixed by the after-sale services.

Lobby groups oppose plans for EU copyright extension

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

The European Commission currently has proposals on the table to extend performers’ copyright terms. Described by Professor Martin Kretschmer as the “Beatles Extension Act”, the proposed measure would extend copyright from 50 to 95 years after recording. A vast number of classical tracks are at stake; the copyright on recordings from the fifties and early sixties is nearing its expiration date, after which it would normally enter the public domain or become ‘public property’. E.U. Commissioner for the Internal Market and Services Charlie McCreevy is proposing this extension, and if the other relevant Directorate Generales (Information Society, Consumers, Culture, Trade, Competition, etc.) agree with the proposal, it will be sent to the European Parliament.

Wikinews contacted Erik Josefsson, European Affairs Coordinator for the Electronic Frontier Foundation (E.F.F.), who invited us to Brussels, the heart of E.U. policy making, to discuss this new proposal and its implications. Expecting an office interview, we arrived to discover that the event was a party and meetup conveniently coinciding with FOSDEM 2008 (the Free and Open source Software Developers’ European Meeting). The meetup was in a sprawling city centre apartment festooned with E.F.F. flags and looked to be a party that would go on into the early hours of the morning with copious food and drink on tap. As more people showed up for the event it turned out that it was a truly international crowd, with guests from all over Europe.

Eddan Katz, the new International Affairs Director of the E.F.F., had come over from the U.S. to connect to the European E.F.F. network, and he gladly took part in our interview. Eddan Katz explained that the Electronic Frontier Foundation is “A non-profit organisation working to protect civil liberties and freedoms online. The E.F.F. has fought for information privacy rights online, in relation to both the government and companies who, with insufficient transparency, collect, aggregate and make abuse of information about individuals.” Another major focus of their advocacy is intellectual property, said Eddan: “The E.F.F. represents what would be the public interest, those parts of society that don’t have a concentration of power, that the private interests do have in terms of lobbying.”

Becky Hogge, Executive Director of the U.K.’s Open Rights Group (O.R.G.), joined our discussion as well. “The goals of the Open Rights Group are very simple: we speak up whenever we see civil, consumer or human rights being affected by the poor implementation or the poor regulation of new technologies,” Becky summarised. “In that sense, people call us -I mean the E.F.F. has been around, in internet years, since the beginning of time- but the Open Rights Group is often called the British E.F.F.

How to Keep Pets in Their Cages

by

stephenie loren

Lindzee, one of our favorite pet people, provides these simple tips below to help keep your small animals safe!

When I was around 10-years-old, my 5th grade teacher gave me our class pet a hamster named Toby to babysit for the summer. About a week into the summer, Toby vanished from his cage! Im still not sure how he escaped, but I think he must have eventually gotten hungry because he reappeared in his cage safe and sound! Small pets like Toby have an uncanny ability to follow their curiosity to unknown places beyond the walls of their habitats. Using their wit and wile, they often find themselves wandering the halls of your house, exposed to all the dangers that come with that territory. To help prevent this dangerous situation, as well as a long and frustrating search and rescue for you and your family, you should make sure you know how to keep your small animal, be it a rat or mouse or hamster, in his cage. After discovering Toby was an escape artist, I took extra precautions to keep his adventurous spirit in check. These tips should help you do the same! Make sure your pet has a proper cage. Bar Spacing -If youre keeping your small pet in a wire cage, you need to ensure that the cage has the proper amount of space between the wires. Anything too wide and your furry friend will be able to wriggle its way through! For mice and hamsters, the spacing should be no greater than inch. For rat cages, this number is inch. Guinea pig, rabbit and ferret cages should not have more than 1 inch of spacing. Using a tank as your small pets habitat is one way to keep from worrying about bar spacing. Keep a Lid On it! -Your small pets may surprise you; no matter how high the sides of their cage or tank are, they always seem to be able to get to the top. For this reason, your cage should always have a lid. But sometimes even this wont be enough! Many crafty pets (like Toby) can figure ways to pop open a loose lid. You should make sure your lid is very secure and maybe even consider reinforcing it. Keeping a dictionary on top would weigh it down and ensure your pets safety. Check Every Corner Many small pet cages are complex and have lots of features (tubes, wheels, hideouts, etc.) that could be loose or not secured properly. They could be covering potential escape routes for your small pet. If you have a cage like this, or even have a very simple cage, make sure to check every nook and cranny for potential weaknesses. One common weakness is the door, which can provide an escape route if loose or improperly secured. Feed your pet carefully! If your small pets habitat has a door that is placed at cage floor level, you need to be watchful when opening it for feeding (or any other reason!) Small pets can be very fast and may dart by your hand before you can react. Keep your pet away from larger animals. If you have cats or dogs as well as small pets, you should be extra careful with your cage! Predators can see your small pets as prey and may try to break into their cages. Even if they dont catch anything, they can damage the cage and create escape routes. Educate your children. Kids, much like my ten-year-old self, are often the perfect accomplice to a small pet escape artist. Children wanting to play with a small pet may not understand how easily they can be set free! Be sure to educate your child on keeping your small pet safe inside his home.

World’s oldest dog dies at age 20

Monday, January 18, 2010

The world’s oldest dog, who answered to the name of Otto, has died at the age of 20. Otto, who was a Dachshund, was born and lived in Shrewsbury, in the county of Shropshire in England.

The dog had to be put down by a vet on Thursday after it was discovered that the animal had developed stomach cancer. The dog’s date of birth was February 14, 1989, which means that Otto would have been 21 years old 31 days after his death occurred. Lynn Jones and her husband Peter had both owned the dog since he was six weeks old. Otto was officially declared the oldest dog in the world by the Guinness Book of Records in October 2009. He was cremated on Friday.

Now Lynn Jones has payed tribute to her pet. “I have cried all morning, I am devastated,” she said. “He died at 10:10AM and I feel like I’ve lost my right arm. I know I sound like a wuss, but he was like the son I never had, my baby boy. I am glad he is not suffering any longer but I wanted him with me forever. We found out yesterday that he had a very large tumour in his stomach and last night I felt that he was trying to tell us something. He couldn’t sit or lie down comfortably and he was trying to tell us that he’d had enough, so we made the decision to end his suffering and took him to the vet [Thursday] morning.”

Tornadoes cause millions in damages in Waco, Texas

Saturday, May 6, 2006

Early Saturday morning winds up to 90 miles per hour struck Waco, Texas and central McLennan County, United States, causing widespread damage and leaving many households without electricity.

No deaths or serious injuries have been reported; however, there is a tremendous amount of damage in 15 areas of the city, leading Mayor Virgina DuPuy to declare the city a disaster area.

The hardest hit area was Franklin Avenue, where the Coca-Cola bottling plant’s roof was peeled open as if by a giant can-opener. There were Sprite bottles spread out onto the street. The nearby Furniture Row shopping center was also hit hard. Some furniture was found as far as three-quarters of a mile away. Other hard-hit areas were Robinson, Hewitt, Woodway, and Speegleville. Densely populated Inner Waco was spared of any catastrophic damage, though hundreds, and possibly thousands, of trees have fallen, and roofs destroyed.

The main concern is restoring power to over 23,000 households and businesses. Many gas stations and grocery stores in the disaster areas were closed until power is restored. Those that remained open have had to throw out all perishable items. Also of concern is getting electricity to those with medical needs. The city has provided help to those without power at the Dewey Recreation Center.

The storm is the hardest to hit the area since the tornado that struck on May 11, 1953, which tore through downtown and killed 114 people.

Waco has seen more than its share of tornadoes recently. Only a week ago, an F1 tornado damaged many houses along Orchid and Kendall Lanes. No people were injured, though two horses were killed when their stable collapsed.

The National Weather Service confirmed this morning’s winds were a F2 tornado, where wind speeds may have reached 115 miles per hour in some locations.
