Koreas hold joint training session for Olympics

Tuesday, January 30, 2018

On Sunday, female ice hockey players from North and South Korea joined one another for a training session before the upcoming Winter Olympics. Players from the two Koreas are to compete together as a united team for the events hosted in Pyeongchang, South Korea, which are scheduled to start on February 9; Seoul’s Unification Ministry said. The cross-border gesture is part of diplomatic efforts to ease tensions on the divided Korean Peninsula and the team was approved by the International Olympic Committee.

The International Olympic Committee selected Pyeongchang in 2011 to host the event, marking South Korea’s first opportunity since the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. The earlier event was marred by violence as North Korea had bombed a South Korean flight several months prior, killing over 100 and boycotted the event. Inter-Korean relations have changed considerably in the ensuing thirty years, including the two sending unified teams for table tennis and youth football in other non-Olympic competitions.

The announcement that the two countries would compete together was a stated goal of South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Last year, he announced the proposal and the two nations went into discussion this month. After two weeks, they made the announcement to field a consolidated 35-strong team of ice hockey players and have joint skiing exercises with both team coaches involved.

According to Yonhap News Agency estimates, about 80% of South Koreans support dialogue, but the move to have a joint team has been controversial. Over 10,000 South Korean citizens sent a petition to South Korean President Moon opposing the union and a group of North Korean defectors held a protest at the South Korean National Assembly on January 24, tearing apart photos of the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un. Public support for eventual reunification of the Korean peninsula has waned in recent years, with the younger generation more skeptical of the possibility.

There are a number of class types of yoga, including Vinyasa yoga. You will find that this specific type of yoga you will be able to do poses that flow into one another and it is a consistent breathing meditation. The type of breathing-oriented posed yoga is rapid and dynamic. It is another way of saying that you are into Power Yoga.

In reference to poses, Vinyasa can describe the poses performed between repeats of “Downward Facing Dog” in a Sun Salutation: Plank, “Four Limbed Staff”, and “Upward Facing Dog”.

To get into the Plank pose from a downward-facing dog, you will have to bring your torso up until your body is straight and your shoulders are directly handling over your wrists. Its like the push up position. Press down firmly through your forearms and hands, widen your shoulder blades, and press back through the heels, regardless of whether your heels touch the floor or not. You will want to make sure that your neck stays inline with your spine, but once you have mastered it, you can perform the pose with one leg lifted at a time.

From Plank, enter the Four Limbed Staff by bending your arms straight back, hugging your upper arms to your sides. Then you will want to lower yourself to the floor with your forearms and upper arms at a ninety-degree angle, while keeping your body level throughout the pose. Push back on your heels while pressing into your palms. (Beginners can leave their knees on the floor until they build the strength to hold up their bodies.) Then you can try shifting the pose while leaving one leg up from the advanced plank pose, but that is only once you’ve mastered the pose

To progress into Upward Facing Dog, tuck in your toes to roll over your feet as you come forward. Don’t let your thighs touch the floor. Make sure that you keep your legs tense and off the floor, but you will also pres into the floor with the tops of your feet and with your palms. Make sure your shoulders remain over the wrists, and drop your hips. Beginners might find it easier to transition by dropping their thighs to the floor, flipping their feet over one at a time, then raising their legs again to move into Upward Facing Dog.

These are just beginning yoga poses will require you to concentration if you would like to master it. You will also find that these are difficult for a person to master. You will want to get it a good go at learning how to do yoga. You will find that there are many difficulties that you will have with Vinyasa yoga.

Space station crew perform successful spacewalk

Monday, March 28, 2005

Commander Leroy Chiao (U.S.A.) and Flight Engineer Salizhan Sharipov (Russia), suited in Russian Orlan spacesuits, left the International Space Station on a 4.5 hour long spacewalk to install antennas for the European Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), inspect and photograph other exterior equipment and launched the Nanosatellite mini-satellite. This is the last scheduled walk for the Expedition 10 crew.

At 06:25 UTC, the two astronauts left the station from the Pirs DC1 docking compartment/airlock and proceeded to install the last three of six space-to-space communication antennas for the ATV’s rendezvous and docking with the ISS next year.

Sharipov next deployed the foot long, 11 pound Russian Nanosatellite, tossing it into space by hand. The object of the experiment is to develop small satellite control techniques, monitor satellite operations and develop new attitude system sensors. Russian ground crews reported good signal reception from the satellite two hours after its release.

The two astronauts next proceeded to the aft end of the Zvezda service module. A Global Positioning System (GPS) antenna and necessary cabling for the ATV was installed and the men worked their way back to the airlock.

The station maintained its attitude, despite the loss of a gyroscope earlier in the space station mission, until the end of the spacewalk. Chiao and Sharipov reported being a safe distance from the attitude adjustment thrusters. Russian ground control activated the jets and normal attitude ofthe station was regained.

They returned to the airlock at 1055 UTC, completing the mission an hour earlier than scheduled.

Chiao and Sharipov arrived on the station October 16, 2004. They are scheduled to return to Earth on April 25, 2005. This marks Sharipov’s second walk in space and Chiao’s sixth.

Christchurch can host 2011 Rugby World Cup final

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

Christchurch, New Zealand‘s Jade stadium says they can host the 2011 Rugby World Cup final if Auckland can’t make a decision on whether or not they should build a new stadium on the waterfront or upgrade Auckland’s current stadium, Eden Park, costing NZ$500 million and $385 million respectively.

Jade Stadium would be able to host the final if they were to include temporary seating to accommodate 60,000 people, required by the International Rugby Board (IRB).

Gary Moore, mayor of Christchurch, said that if they were selected to host the final then they will ask the government for $80 million. The stadium is already planning for an upgrade, worth $60 million but that money will be funded from private and charitable organisations as well as the local and central governments. The current upgrade will see Jade stadium’s seating capacity grow to 43,000 and if they host a quarter-final or semi-final then temporary seating will increase the seats to 55,000.

Trevor Mallard, the Minister of Sport, said that the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Regional Council have both been given about two weeks to tell the government which decision it supports. If they cannot come to a decision then the final will most likely be given to Jade stadium, Christchurch. The least likeliest of all decisions, an upgrade of Carlaw park, but that is designated for a retirement home and on private land.

Mr Moore said that he and “stadium officials had offered Jade Stadium as a back-up final venue at a recent informal meeting with Mallard because of the continuing Auckland divisions over a site. This is about New Zealand Inc, not about Christchurch versus Auckland. What we have said to Trevor Mallard is we are able to put a stadium into Christchurch that would accommodate the numbers they would need as an insurance policy if Auckland cannot get its act together. The Government knows that when Christchurch or Canterbury puts its hand up it delivers with excellence.”

Bryan Pearson, chief executive of Vbase, the company which manages Jade Stadium, said: “It was not uncommon for major sporting venues to add temporary seating for big events. London had included temporary seating for some stadiums as part of its successful Olympic hosting bid. It was not a low-rent option, and was a commercially prudent way to marry short-term opportunity with long-term legacy.”

Mr Pearson hopes that Jade Stadium will not be used for the final as he understands why the government wants a national stadium, “Let’s hope this gets sorted and we can focus our attentions on playing a very major supporting role. We are only a third the size of Auckland, so what we can sustain post-World Cup is nowhere near what Auckland can.”

Warwick Taylor, former All Black, said it will be great if Christchurch can host the final even though he played in the 1987 final at Eden Park. Though Mr Taylor does say that an Auckland stadium is a better idea as a 60,000 seat stadium is more viable in such a large population city. Mr Taylor said that he “had great memories playing at Eden Park and in some ways would hate to see it lose the final. But I also like the idea of a national stadium.”

The New Zealand Rugby Union said that a waterfront stadium and an upgrade of Eden Park are the only two options being considered, and no other stadiums are being considered.

A lot of people are confirming that Christchurch will be able to cope with the huge amount of visitors that would arrive for the final as Christchurch has the highest per capita amount of restaurants and bars in Australasia. The city also features numerous hotels.

If New Zealand cannot deliver a final in a 60,000 seat World Class stadium then the IRB will allocated the final to another country.

Chloroform spill forces evacuation of building at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York

Monday, August 11, 2008

Buffalo, New York —The Buffalo Fire Department and Police were called to a hazmat situation at Canisius College on Main Street after security reported that a one gallon glass container containing chloroform broke, spilling about a pint onto the floor of the college’s science building.

According to communications by firefighters, who arrived at around 8:20 a.m. (eastern time), the glass container spilled on the third floor in room 318. As a precaution the building was evacuated and East Delevan road between Main Street and Jefferson Avenues was closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic while crews worked to clean up the spill.

At about 9:15 hazmat crews entered the room and began to clean up the chemical “using kitty litter” and fans to air out the room. They then sealed the material in a five gallon container. At 9:23 a.m. firefighters stated that they no longer detected the chemical in the air and began to pack up their gear.

Officials for the college assessed the situation and decided to keep the building closed for the day. “At 8:22am this morning the Public Safety Department and Buffalo Fire Department responded to a report of a chemical spill on the third floor of the Health Science Center. As the building is cleaned, the Health Science Building will remain closed today and reopen tomorrow morning,” a college official said to Wikinews, adding they could not confirm the firefighter reports.

Firefighters believe the container containing the chemical was knocked over while someone working with maintenance was cleaning the floors.

There are no reports of injuries, but WKBW reports that the maintenance worker was taken to Sister’s of Saint Mercy’s hospital not far from the college for observation.

Chloroform is a common solvent used in chemistry laboratories. Minimal exposure can cause dizziness, headaches and fainting while prolonged exposure can cause liver and kidney damage. It is considered a hazardous material and environmentally unsafe. Banned as a consumer product since 1976 in the U.S., it was previously used in toothpaste, cough medicines and pharmaceuticals.

Reasons To Get A Root Canal In Branford, Ct

byAlma Abell

There is a misconception that having a Root Canal in Branford CT will be a source of pain when in reality, this procedure is designed to reduce pain and inflammation. This is accomplished through the removal of a damaged tooth’s nerve and pulp, which is then covered by a crown. There are several different reasons that dentists may recommend that their patients get root canal treatment, several of which are described below.

Deep Decay

While surface cavities can typically be treated using simple amalgam fillings, extensive decay typically requires a root canal. If left untreated, extreme pain, infection, and even tooth loss can occur, so it’s always best to seek treatment immediately. Once this decay reaches the highly-sensitive nerves and blood vessels in a tooth’s pulp, it can cause serious pain, so most patients don’t need to be told twice that it’s time to head to the dentist.

Multiple Procedures on the Same Tooth

Repeated dental procedures place patients at increased risk for needing root canal treatment. Reoccurring cavities and the development of new decay on the same tooth are two of the most common reasons that multiple procedures may be required. Teeth that have become chipped, cracked or broken often wind up requiring root canal treatment eventually as well.

Large Fillings

If a cavity is left untreated for too long, it may lead to the need for an extensive filling. This can dramatically impact the tooth’s structural integrity. If the decay can reach the tooth’s pulp, inflammation and infection may also develop and will make a root canal the only feasible option for keeping the tooth.

Acute Trauma

Acute trauma such as cracks and chips sometimes require root canals if their results are too severe to be treated using surface treatments. A Root Canal in Branford CT can allow patients to save their natural teeth even when they have been severely damaged, which can reduce their chances of requiring an extraction.

Take Action Immediately

The best approach for any patient who is suffering from severe dental decay or trauma is to contact a dentist immediately regarding treatment. Visit Greatamericansmile.com to learn about one dental office in the area that can help.

US Defense Secretary evaluates Iraq and the political climate

Friday, April 6, 2007

U.S. Defence Secretary Robert Gates warned that limiting funding for the United States efforts in Iraq could lead to more bloodshed in the Middle Eastern country. In an interview with radio talk show host Laura Ingraham, he said it might even lead to ethnic cleansing in Bahgdad and elsewhere in Iraq.

Gates’ comment followed a proposal from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to end most spending on the Iraq war in 2008, limiting it to targeted operations against al Qaeda, training for Iraqi troops and U.S. force protection.

Sec. Gates also said that the duration of the troop increase is not clear and that evaluating whether the Administration’s new strategy was working will have to wait till mid-summer. The Army general charged with day-to-day operations has suggested that the increased deployment may extend to early next year.

Male Organ Anatomy 101 Quirks And Oddities Of The Manhood

Mostmen are quite familiar with their own equipment, but sometimes something comesup that leaves them scratching their head. The male organ is a surprising tool, and most men having only one of their own have little basis for comparisonand may wonder, Is this normal?Thereare many peculiarities of the male organ; learn about some of them here, aswell as some tips for maintaining ahealthy male organin spite of some odd behavior.

Itgets nervous Everhave to urinate really badly, but when stepping up to the plate at a publicurinal, nothing comes out?Well,as many as 1 in 10 men suffer from bathroom stage fright, known asparuresis.Anxiety ornervousness causes the pelvic floor to tighten, pinching off any hope ofgetting that urine out.Ifthis is a problem, try focusing on relaxing thoughts or pop into the bathroomstall for more privacy.

ShrinkageShrinkageis a real thing, not just a great punch line on TV.Just like a cashmere sweater in adryer, the male organ and its two little friends shrivel up when wet.The reason behind this embarrassingphenomenon is actually evolutionarily sound. The boys need to be kept at arelatively constant temperature to keep the swimmers healthy and intact, sowhen they are thrust into icy cold water, the muscles retract them and bringthem closer to the body for more heat.Theopposite effect occurs when stepping into a hot sauna, when the boys sag likean elephants ankle skin in an attempt to cool off.

LeakageMuchlike the hose continues to leak water even after the spigot has been turnedoff, the male organ continues to drip a bit of urine after the bladderotherwise feels empty.Luckily,a few drips are not a sign of an aging male organ, but occurs because theurethra is a long tube that even the most diligent shaking does not fullyempty.A gentle squeeze ina downward motion can help drain as much urine as possible from the male organ, but even that may not fully eliminate the problem. The best fix?Buy colored underwear to avoid nastyyellow stains. Problem solved.

Itcurves to the left Yes,it is a fact that nearly every mans male organ has a slight twist in it, andyes, every male organ curves to the left.Scientists are, to this day, hard atwork trying to figure out why.Okay, maybe not hard at work, scientists probably have more pressing things toresearch — but they do all twist in a counter-clockwise direction. Thisnaturally occurs in utero as the body is developing. Some men have a more pronounced curvethan others, but it is perfectly normal unless the male organ has a markedcurve of more than 90 degrees, which could have been caused by injury.

Itchanges colors Rememberthose t-shirts that changed color when warmed? The skin of the male organ is a littlebit like that. The skin isvery thin compared to the rest of the body and is therefore more susceptible tocolor change with changes in blood flow. When aroused, the male organ isflooded with extra blood and the head may turn pink or red as a result. When the male organ is flaccid, withno extra blood, it may appear bluish or purple, much like the veins easilyspotted in ones arms.Variousshades of pink, purple, and blue are normal, but a bright red male organ thatis accompanied by itching and burning is likely infected and needs medicalattention.Likewise, a maleorgan that suddenly turns black is not receiving sufficient blood flow; thus,an emergency trip to the hospital is needed.

Keepingthe male organ healthy

Forall its quirks, the male organ certainly performs many important functions in amans daily life.Itsfunctions include life-sustaining actions, a la excreting ones waste;life-giving, otherwise known as baby-making; and life-living; i.e., intimacy, the fun part. With so many vital functions being carried out by the male organ,it is utterly important to keep it healthy and well.Using a dailymaleorgan vitamin formulapackedwith vital nutrients(healthprofessionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil)cankeep the male organ functioning, while also improving sensitivity so that itruns better and feels better in the process.Talk about a win-win.
